Area Police
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure said the attack made him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
