Fly-tippers cover open land in massive pile of garbage

Fly-tipping site in Oxfordshire Local resident
Illegal dumping site

The site has been labeled an "environmental crisis".
A reporter surveyed the scene and said the heap appeared to be "twenty feet in height at least".

Waste criminals have discarded a massive amount of waste in a rural area in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in public view" is up to 150m (490ft) extending and 6m (20ft) high.

The massive pile has materialized in a field adjacent to the River Cherwell in the vicinity of Kidlington.

A local MP highlighted the problem in parliament, declaring it was "threatening an environmental disaster".

Protection organization said the unauthorized waste site was established approximately a month ago by an criminal network.

"This represents an environmental catastrophe taking place in full view.

"Daily that passes increases the danger of toxic drainage reaching the river system, poisoning wildlife and putting at risk the condition of the whole river basin.

"Regulatory bodies must take action immediately, not in months or years, which is their usual response period."

Legal prohibition had been established by the regulatory body.

It is difficult to identify any individual items of garbage as it appears to have been pulverized with dirt blended.

Some of the rubbish from the peak of the pile has toppled and is now just five metres from the stream.

The River Cherwell is a tributary of the River Thames, which means it runs through Oxford before connecting with the Thames.

Government debate about waste crisis Government broadcast
Parliament representative said the cost of removing the garbage would be high

The representative asked the administration for support to remove the unauthorized dump before it resulted in a fire or was carried into the water network.

Informing MPs on Thursday, he stated: "Criminals have discarded a huge quantity of unauthorized synthetic materials... weighing many tons, in my district on a water-adjacent land alongside the River Cherwell.

"Water heights are increasing and temperature readings show that the rubbish is also heating up, increasing the threat of combustion.

"Regulatory body said it has limited capabilities for enforcement, that the projected cost of removal is higher than the whole yearly allocation of the regional government."

Government official stated the administration had assumed responsibility for a failing recycling sector that had resulted in an "growing issue of unauthorized waste disposal".

She told parliament members the authority had implemented a access ban to halt additional entry to the area.

In a declaration, the organization confirmed it was examining the matter and asked for details.

It said: "We understand the public's anger about occurrences like this, which is why we respond against those accountable for environmental offenses."

A recent study found initiatives to tackle significant illegal dumping have been "severely neglected" notwithstanding the issue becoming more extensive and more advanced.

A parliamentary committee proposed an autonomous "thorough" inquiry into how "endemic" illegal dumping is addressed.
