Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
