Approximately twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events swept through the state, producing wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Damage

Residents witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that multiple regions across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units deployed to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

At one point on Sunday, more than twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk expected across various areas of both states.

Safety Concern

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
