R360 Athletes Face 10-Year Suspension from NRL
The rugby star earned 20 international appearances for the Kiwis before changing representation to Samoa.
The NRL's governing body has stated that players who sign with the “counterfeit” R360 will be barred for 10 years.
The proposed competition, scheduled to begin in October 2026, is seeking to lure rugby union and rugby league players with hefty contracts and a reduced game calendar.
Top rugby league stars have reportedly been approached by R360, which will involve multiple men's sides and four women's teams located in large metropolitan areas worldwide.
The Samoan the rugby star, who is with the Warriors in the league, has confirmed he has had negotiations involving the new organization.
Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Payne Haas and Jye Gray are also believed to be considering joining the new competition.
Several leading union countries, such as Australia, last week imposed a prohibition on R360 recruits participating in international matches.
“We heard our teams and we've acted decisively,” said Australian Rugby League Commission head the official.
“Unfortunately, there will always be organizations that seek to pirate our game for potential financial gain.
“They avoid funding in development systems or the development of players. They merely capitalize on the efforts of existing bodies, putting players at risk of financial loss while profiting themselves.
“Essentially, they are, counterfeiting a code.”
The league is launched by ex-England star Tindall and supported by independent financiers.
Following the possible union sanctions were declared last week, it commented: “We seek to cooperate collaboratively as integrated into the worldwide fixture list.
“The series is structured with customized calendars for men's and women's teams and R360 will release all players for international matches, as specified in their agreements.”
The breakaway group will request authorization for its initiatives from World Rugby, rugby union's regulatory group, at its official gathering next year.
