Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.

A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The motive behind the incident has not been established and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a premises close to the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the property managing the implementation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.

CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but collapsed a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Key evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the scene.

Police have appealed members of the public who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their destination," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
