Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
