The Three Lions to Launch Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the anticipated entry for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an England men’s game since eight years ago, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

The English side are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would take place at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Competition Kickoff and Protest

The championship was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they entered the site by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for Israel to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were raised with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will include the Dragons if they make it.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract households and help connect with a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on the tournament through that route.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena round out the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a championship for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the football – its emotion and capacity to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million passes, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
