This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
