Three-time NBA MVP Jokic endured a "devastating" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The star player sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter following an inadvertent contact with team-mate Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of Jokic, who promptly collapsed to the court holding his leg.

The veteran player, that is leading the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the problem.

Jokic will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the extent of the problem.

"Immediately, he realized he was hurt," stated Denver coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who gets hurt, that's difficult, most notably somebody as talented as him. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We will continue together. Obviously, right now, I'm more concerned about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event of that nature."
